چکیده
The control of stationary convective instabilities in the rotating disk boundary layer via a time-periodic modulation rotation rate is investigated. configuration provides an archetypal example three-dimensional temporally periodic layer, encompassing both von Kármán and Stokes layers. A velocity–vorticity formulation governing perturbation equations deployed, together with numerical procedure that utilises Chebyshev-tau method. Floquet theory used to determine linear stability properties these flows. addition otherwise steady establishes stabilising effect. In particular, for broad range frequencies, growth suppressed critical Reynolds number onset cross-flow Coriolis raised larger values than found without modulation. An energy analysis undertaken, where it demonstrated induces reduction stress production increase viscous dissipation across layer. Comparisons are made other techniques, including distributed surface roughness compliant walls.

The Convective Instability of Boundary-layer Flows over Rotating Spheroids
The continuous development of spinning projectiles and other industrial applications has led to the need to understand the laminar boundary-layer flow and subsequent onset of transition over the general family of rotating spheroids. We begin by finding the laminar boundary-layer flow over a general spheroid. In particular, we distinguish between prolate and oblate spheroids and use an appropria...
متن کاملVortex-Speed Selection Within the Rotating-Disk Boundary Layer
A theoretical investigation into the vortex-speed selection within the rotating-disk boundary layer is conducted. Two methods are used which are different to previous investigations in the literature and enable analysis of a particular vortex speed with respect to the rotating surface. Using these methods (together with arguments based on critical Reynolds numbers, unstable parameter ranges and...
متن کاملConvective and absolute instabilities in the boundary layer over rotating spheres with surface mass flux and incident axial flow
We consider the effect of surface mass flux and forced axial flow on the boundary-layer flows over rotating spheres, with a view to establishing flow-control mechanisms for rotating flows of engineering significance. A theoretical study is presented which considers the onset of convective instability modes (both stationary and travelling relative to the rotating surface) and local absolute inst...

Boundary Layers and Heat Transfer on a Rotating Rough Disk
The study of flow and heat transfer over rotating circular disks is of great practical importance in understanding the cooling of rotatory machinery such as turbines, electric motors and design and manufacturing of computer disk drives. This paper presents an analysis of the flow and heat transfer over a heated infinite permeable rough disk. Boundary-layer approximation reduces the elliptic Nav...
